Four new coronavirus cases, all from schools; total now 914

Four people have tested positive for coronavirus after 1564 diagnostic tests on Saturday raising the total number of cases in Cyprus to 914.

All four of the new cases are the result of 325 tests among pupils and school personnel. Only final year pupils at upper secondary schools and at technical schools are back at school. They returned on May 11, in groups and by rotation, to prepare for their end of year exams.

According to a written announcement from the Health Ministry, today’s results are:

None through tracing of the contacts of positive cases (85 tests today)

None from public hospital labs (197 tests today)

None from private initiative (172 tests today)

None from special health groups (32 tests today)

None from testing of workers in retail and construction sites (753 tests today)

Four from pupils and teachers (325 tests today)

At 3 pm on Friday, there were four patients at Famagusta Hospital, all in good condition. One person was discharged.

There are three intubated patients in ICUs, all at Nicosia Hospital. Their condition is described as critical but stable.

In addition, there is one confirmed Covid-19 case in hospital wards other than Famagusta Hospital.
