Former deputy attorney general Rikkos Erotokritou who last months was released on parole, will face disciplinary charges before the Cyprus Bar Association which will decide whether he can keep his lawyer’s licence, Phileleftheros reported on Monday.
It said that the Disciplinary Board of the Cyprus Bar Association had sent the charges to the former deputy AG. The most serious charge is that of conduct unbecoming to his profession that relates to his conviction on charges of corruption.
The Disciplinary Board is chaired by Attorney General Costas Clerides who has recused himself.
Erotokritou was released on parole on August 3 having served 17 months of his 42 month sentence — the first convict to be granted early release under a new law approved by parliament in May allowing prisoners to apply for parole before serving half their sentence provided they have shown good conduct and industriousness.
Under the previous law, Erotokritou was not eligible for release before the start of 2019.
