Relevant News

The Forestry Department has posted a video of Madari in the Adelfi Forest with spectacular images of the craggy peaks. At around 1600 metres, Madari is Cyprus’ second highest peak.

The area is mainly covered by natural clusters of pine (Pinus brutia) and golden oak (Quercus alnifolia), while Greek juniper (Juniperus excelsa) and Cade juniper (Juniperus oxycedrus) can be found in the higher altitudes, the Department said on its Facebook page.

Due to its great natural value, the forest has been included in the European network of protected areas “Natura 2000”.

The Department of Forests has created four linear nature trails which join up to create a circular path of 13 km and a circular path of 3 km. The small circular path begins at the fire look out station at Madari, which was built in 1931 and is manned during the summer period for forest protection purposes.

There are three picnic areas and another six nature trails in the Adelfi forest while the area is also very close to Troodos National Forest Park with its wide range of leisure services.

More information can be found on the website of the forest department: www.moa.gov.cy/forest

The Forestry Department has thanked Constantinos Christou for the video.
