Five men arrested in Nicosia in connection with the brutal beating of Limassol AEL’s American basketball player Corey Manigault ten days ago have been released without any charges pressed against them.
Police justified the release of the five men and assured that investigations are ongoing, Philenews also reported on Wednesday.
Manigault, 23, was taken off a ventilator at the ICU of the Nicosia General Hospital where he is being treated three days ago. He was beaten during a brawl outside a club in Nicosia.
His mother flew over from the US and is by his side, while the US embassy closely monitors the situation.
The release of the five men is based on the following justifications: Firstly, the head injury that sent him to the intensive care unit took place outside the club and no footage from surveillance cameras is available.
Secondly, the five released men can be seen in the CCTV footage inside the nightclub to be involved in a scuffle but not in the heavy blows they caused the victim’s serious head injury.
