First public free of charge electric charging point unveiled in Nicosia

Relevant News

The first public e-point charging station was unveiled in Nicosia on Wednesday at the junction of Stasandrou and Agias Elenis street aiming to boost efforts promoting green and sustainable cities.

Charging will be free of charge for one year, according to Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos.

“The promotion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure will create the green and sustainable cities and communities of tomorrow,” Karousos also said in an address.

The installation of free vehicle charging stations in public places in the capital is an initiative of the Pilakoutas group and Troodos Electric Cables Ltd, with the support of Nicosia Municipality.

“Such projects, regardless of who implements them, aim to implement the environmental obligations of the Republic of Cyprus to reduce emissions of gas pollutants and achieve the new European energy and climate targets,” he added.

The plan is for the setting up of similar infrastructure all across Cyprus, he also said.

In addition, the Nicosia Municipality – in cooperation with the two private companies – will soon install two more electric chargers, one in D’Avila Moat and another in “Tripolis” parking lot in Solomou Square. Both are municipal parking lots.
