The Republic’s Legal Services have referred to court a case against Bank of Cyprus over unfair terms in contracts drawn up by the lender.

This is what Attorney General Costas Clerides told CNA on Wednesday, a day after MPs slammed his Office for failing to show up at a scheduled discussion of the issue before a parliamentary committee.

“Another two cases are also ready to be referred to court but this has not been possible up to date due to problems arising at relevant government departments,” he also said.

“The referral of these two cases will take place within this week,” he added.

MPs of the House commerce committee went as far as to say that they would give his Office one more chance to attend, otherwise they would issue a formal summons forcing state attorneys to appear in parliament.

Committee chairman Andreas Kyprianou of ruling Disy said dozens of cases are pending relating to unfair contract terms.

And that, to date, the Legal Services have led not a single case to court.
