Fire service tackle Limassol house fire, move fallen trees because of strong winds

It has been a busy 24 hours for the fire service which responded to a fire which broke out at a house in Ayios Athanassios, Limassol and was also called in to shift trees knocked down by the strong winds.

Just before midnight, the fire service was called to a fire at a two storey house at Ayios Athanasios, It responded with three fire trucks and the fire was extinguished at 3.45 am.

The fire started from the chimney of the fire place and spread to the wall and wooden roof. Fire fighters used a hydraulic platform and breathing apparatus. They said the fire was due to the faulty construction of the chimney.

Moreover, because of the strong winds the fire service responded to six calls for help islandwide as follows:

Limassol: two calls to move fallen trees

Larnaca: one call to remove a fallen tree

Paphos: two calls to salvage property (water tank and shop window)

Emak: one call to remove a fallen tree
