Fire service, police probe fire at Ayia Napa apartment; no injuries

A fire in an apartment on the first floor of an Ayia Napa apartment block has caused considerable damage, the Cyprus News Agency said on Friday.

It said the fire service had responded to a call of a fire at the complex at 19.34 on Thursday with four fire trucks. The fire was placed under control at 20.27, it said.

The apartment sustained considerable damage as did the stairwell. There was also some damage to the pub on the ground floor, below the apartment.

There was no-one in the apartment when the fire broke out and the fire service evacuated other residents as a precaution.

The cause of the fire will be investigated today by the fire service and police.

Meanwhile, a fire broke out at a car parked outside an apartment block in Emba, Paphos early on Friday morning and was extinguished by the fire service which sent two fire trucks. The car sustained considerable damage.

The fire service and police are investigating the cause of the fire.
