Fire in the district of Paphos now under control (updated)

A fire that broke out this morning at the community of Pentalia of the Paphos District is currently under control.

According to the spokesman of the Fire Service, the fire burned dry weeds and wild vegetation and three Fire Engines from various stations of Paphos had been working to put it out. Another two Fire Engines of the Forestry Department as well as two helicopters of the Republic, two planes of the Forestry Department and another two Fire Engines had joined the effort.

Nearby residences had to be evacuated. Specifically five older people were moved by Police to a safe place.

Fire Service forces remain in the area to face any possible rekindling.
