The fire department responded to 59 fires and 89 calls for help in the last three days, among them a fire near Moni in Limassol on Sunday afternoon which burned about 5 hectares of dry vegetation before being extinguished by fire trucks and fire fighting aircraft. Fire service personnel remained on site overnight to guard against a possible flare up.
The fire service said it had also responded to a call of a fire aboard a yacht in a private area on Alexandria street in Limassol. It said it had extinguished the fire using foam. The yacht sustained significant damage but the fire service was able to prevent the fire from spreading to other boats.
