Famagusta Reference Hospital for covid on high alert

Relevant News

Famagusta General Hospital – the island’s covid-19 reference one – went on alert on Tuesday after it reached a record high of 70 patients with the novel virus.

Four of them were in the Increased Care Unit, according to Amalia Hatzigianni who heads the reference hospital.

“This the highest number of covid-19 patients ever since the pandemic broke out in March…we can only accommodate up to 75 patients,” she told CNA.

“After the evacuation of the pathology, paediatrics and gynaecology departments, the orthopaedic and surgical units followed suit. This means that the Famagusta General Hospital now operates exclusively as a coronavirus reference hospital,” she added.

However, the Blood-Dialysis Unit and the Emergency Department remain in normal operation.
