Extraordinary measures by Police for 17 prison escapes in two years

The Cyprus Police leadership is blaming the large number of prisoners’ escapes during the past two years to the partial compliance of policemen with the body’s provisions. This is what is deducted by a service note sent on Thursday, 28 July, from the headquarters to all police directors all over Cyprus.

Phileleftheros is presenting the content of the note, which reveals the Police leadership’s intentions.

It refers to the handling of prisoners, their transport, and the proper way of using handcuffs. It also reminds of the exact police provisions and is asking all directors to make sure to organize lectures in cooperation with the director of the Police Academy (provided this is deemed necessary).

The officers are ordered to conduct sudden checks to the members of the Force participating in arrests or transfer of suspects/prisoners to make sure that the proper provisions are respected.
