Erimi: 20 to face charges for breaking lockdown decree

Relevant News

Police have completed their investigation into a church service at Erimi on April 23 and have referred their findings to police headquarters, philenews reports.

Citing sources it said that 20 people, including the priest at the Church of Ayios Yiorgos, Erimi’s community leader and 18 members of the public will be charged with breaking the lockdown decree.

Police had gone to the church last Thursday. Although there were about 16 cars outside, when they entered the church they only found the priest and two members of the public who were booked.

They traced the owners of the cars from the licence plates and called them in for questioning, even though the community leader had suggested it was all a misunderstanding and that the people may have been in the fields pickings wild asparagus.

According to philenews, the police findings are being sent to police headquarters and from there to the attorney general’s office.
