The Education Ministry has recently placed emphasis on the sector of receiving children of migrants into Cyprus’s education system. Education Minister Prodromos Prodromou has recently announced a series of actions for the new school year, aiming to make the students’ integration as smooth as possible. The main target is for them to learn Greek, something that will help them communicate better so that they can participate in the educational process and not be simple observers.
Among the actions planned, is the preparation of various Guide books including basic information that will help teachers in their everyday work. These Guides include actions in school before the arrival of children, preparation for announcements, rules in two languages as well as other activities for everyday life. There are also proposal for meetings between the children’s parents and the teachers. The Guides also note that teachers need to collect information about the children’s previous education, culture of family and history of movement.
