€5000 stolen from unlocked car in Paphos

A man left an envelope with €5000 on the front seat of an unlocked car  to run an errand in Paphos, only to find it was gone on his return.

The theft occurred around 4.30 pm yesterday.

The 54-year old reported the case to the police saying that besides the cash a chequebook and invoices were also taken.

Police investigations led to the arrest of a 34 year old in connection who denies any involvement.

Police said the man is also being held in connection with another pending warrant regarding theft and damage of property in Paphos on August 9. They said that a bag had been stolen a little after midnight that day from a parked car. The bag contained a number of car keys and the key to a building. The perpetrator had gained access to the car by breaking the glass behind the driver’s seat.
