The Council of Ministers on Wednesday approved €1m to subsidise farmers who have sustained damage to their crops from mouflon herds.
It said that it will subsidise 70% of the cost of building a fence round agricultural cultivations and 80% of the loss of revenue of affected producers.
The Agriculture Ministry said that the decision satisfies a longstanding demand of producers in the mountain villages who have complained that the mouflon — which is protected — damage their crops.
Both schemes will be open to applications in the near future, it added.
