Dry and sunny today, mainly fine weekend ahead

It will be dry and sunny today, but there are still problems with some roads in the mountains and drivers are urged to be careful and stay updated on conditions.

In its early morning weather bulletin, the Met Office said  weak low pressure is beginning to affect the area.

Today will be mainly fine while locally there may be increased local cloud. Temperatures will rise to 16 C inland, around 17 C on the coasts and 6 C in the mountains. Locally in the mountains there may be frost.

Tonight will be mainly fine and temperatures will fall to 7 C inland, around 10 C on the coasts and -1 C in the mountains. There will be frost in the mountains and hilly areas.

Saturday will be mainly fine. Sunday and Monday there will be intervals of mainly fine weather and intervals of cloud with the possibility of light showers and light snowfall on the higher Troodos peaks.

On Saturday temperatures will edge up to a little above the seasonal average, remaining a the same levels on Sunday and moving back to average for the time of year on Monday.

At the time of issue of the early morning weather bulletin the depth of snow at Troodos Square was 90 cm.

Roads

All roads leading to Troodos are open only to four wheel drive cars or those equipped with snow chains.

The following roads are closed: Milikouri-Ayios Nicolaos, bridge betweenb Korakou and Flasou and bridge near Peristerona primary school

The Pedoulas-Troodos and Prodromos-Trooditissa roads are open to all vehicles but slippery.

In Paphos the section of the Paphos-Polis Chrysochous road near Yiolou remains closed for repairs.

Police said the situation on the roads in the mountains is changing because of the wintry conditions and the public is urged to stay informed via the police app or its website.
