Donations to political parties marked by non-transparency, financial distortions

Lack of transparency and violation of the legislation in place prevail when it comes to donations from individuals and companies to parliamentary parties in Cyprus.

This is obvious when one takes just a quick look at the lists of donations to the EU member state’s parties, Philenews reported on Thursday.

In fact, a simple horizontal investigation is enough for one to realize that capital, which generally refers to money given by private individuals to parties, is suspicious.

And that the parliamentary parties themselves have failed to correct the prevailing legislative loopholes.

Even though the specific issue was discussed several times in Parliament and the Law on Political Parties was passed in 2012.

The legislation in question was promoted so that the contributions are not anonymous, but also so that there is transparency in the whole matter. Which, however, existing data proves the opposite.
