UN Undersecretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo has the most chances of being appointed UN Special Envoy in order to conduct exploratory contacts with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish-Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci.
According to sources, if the two leaders decide to move the negotiating process forward, she will probably be the one appointed as Special Adviser.
Rosemary DiCarlo succeeded the, also American, Jeffrey Feltman as Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs on April 1st. She served for many years as representative of the United States to the United Nations and was also Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs at the US Department of State.
