Department of Fisheries to create app for Cypriot fishermen

Relevant News

The Department of Fisheries is launching a competition for the development of an application for fishermen in Cyprus.

The application will allow fishermen to track their journeys and activities as well as to submit a ‘sales report’ to consumers.

Data submitted to the app will be automatically sent to the Department of Fisheries.

Specifically, the app will track real-time data about the arrival and return journey of each boat, type of fishing gear used, fishing activities and what type of fish was caught.

Among others, the ‘sales report’ will include data about the time and date of each transaction as well as type and quantity of fish sold.

Fishermen will able to use the app to receive information about weather conditions, legislation, renew their licences and submit complaints. They will also receive push notification and alerts in the case they violate the law (for example if they enter a marine protected area).

The estimated value of the competition is €71,500.  The deadline for submitting offers expires on January 22. The duration of the contract will be 21 months.
