During the 23-24 July 2022 weekend, the risk of wildfires will be at the “red alert” level, the Department of Forests said in an announcement.
It is stressed that it is prohibited to light a fire without a license and it is a felony according to the Law on Forests of 2012, punishable with imprisonment of up to 10 years or with a fine of 50,000 euros or both. It is also punishable according to the Law on Fires of 1988 for up to five years in prison or with a fine of 20,000 euros of both.
It is clarified that fires can only be lit to prepare food in excursion areas.
The public is urged to be particularly careful, refraining from any activities that might cause a fire.
