The historic Liberty monument,located approximately 150 metres away from the Archbishop’s palace along the walls of Nicosia, was recently damaged while restored and cleaned from painted slogans and paint which had been spilled on it. Those vandalising the monument are usually active during the night andd tend to write slogans and swear words on it.
Restorer Kyprianos Kyprianou has been preserving this monument which belongs to the EOKA Historic Remembrance Council for years, but the last restoration was done by a non-expert unskilled crew resulting to the damage. The colour of some of the statues was changed due to the fact that the patina of the brass statues was removed during the botched restoration attempt.
