Dali pupils to brief MPs on air pollution from asphalt plants

Relevant News

Dali primary school pupils will brief MPs next week on the serious issue of air pollution caused by asphalt plants located in industrial zones nearby.

The briefing by the Nicosia suburb’s pupils, set for February 12, will be in the presence of Education Minister Prodromos Prodromou.

And it follows a visit last week to one of the community’s three primary schools by House Education Committee chairman Kyriacos Hadjiyiannis.

The specific school is surrounded by five industrial zones but the main pollution source appears to be two asphalt plants.

A committee with representatives from four different ministries was tasked last October to discuss the possibility of relocation with the owners of the plants.

In the meantime, the Green Party is to table a bill providing for the regulation of industry which causes inconvenience and irritation at residential areas of Cyprus on Friday, February 7.

A parry announcement also said that they demand a reduction and control of industry causing irritation and inconvenience to several residential areas of Cyprus.

“Our goal is to prevent, reduce and control intolerant odours coming from plants so as to protect the health and well-being of residents,” it added.
