Cyprus should examine policy followed in other countries on hot gun possession issue

Relevant News

Cyprus should examine the policy followed in other countries on the hot and dangerous issue of gun possession, the chief of police told Philenews on Tuesday.

Stelios Papatheodorou also admitted they were alarmed over recent incidents where citizens legally possessing hunting or other rifles are acting in unlawful ways.

“We need to find ways to discuss these issues with all concerned and find solutions,” he said before adding that it is necessary to consider what other countries are doing with gun possession.

Because, he added, it is a very sensitive issue since it also concerns reservists and national guardsmen.

The issue came to the fore after the last incident in Geri ten days ago where a 58-year-old man shot and killed his neighbour and seriously wounded his father over a parking space.

And on Sunday, a 46-year-old man in Agios Dhometios shot with his G3 military rifle at his neighbor’s house and vehicle causing panic in the early hours of the day.

The 46-year-old who was a reservist and had the military weapon charged never bothered the Police before.
