Cyprus records 38 road deaths in 2022, lowest number since its establishment

Relevant News

Cyprus recorded the lowest number of road deaths in 2022 since the establishment of the Republic in 1960 with the total reaching 38, Philenews reported on Tuesday.

In 2021, fatal accidents had reached a total of 44, according to traffic police data.

However, despite the high number of fatalities for a population under a million inhabitants authorities are encouraged by the drop. Especially because the drop is systematic year in and year out.

Data shows that a total of 48 road deaths were recorded in 2020, compared to 52 in 2019. The highest number of road deaths recorded in the past decade was 67 in 2011.

The latest traffic police data also shows that the highest fatalities for 2022 were recorded on coastal Limassol roads.

There, a total of 13 people lost their lives, while the capital city of Nicosia recorded eight fatalities.

Another five people lost their lives in Paphos while Larnaca recorded six deaths. I Famagusta, five road fatalities were recorded.
