Cyprus on Wednesday marks two years since first two Covid cases were recorded

Relevant News

Wednesday marks two years since the bleak day Cyprus announced its first two coronavirus cases on March 9, 2020.

But only about a couple of days ago the Mediterranean island saw a fresh round of relaxations to the restrictions aiming to curb the spread of the highly-contagious virus.

And even though 76% of the total population is now vaccinated against Covid-19 the big question is whether a fourth booster shot should be administered – at least to the island’s vulnerable.

Afterall, 2022 has been marked with a shocking number of Covid fatalities since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Up until Tuesday evening, a total of 881 Covid-related deaths were recorded in Cyprus since the beginning of the pandemic.

But in January 2022, alone, the number of such fatalities was as high as 100. In February, this was 99 and in the first eight days of March it was 17.

In other words, out of the island’s total of 881 deaths, 218 were recorded between January 1, 2022 and Tuesday.
