A shocking spate of six road deaths in just 24 days has marked the start of the new year, Philenews reports following Tuesday’s latest one concerning a 24-year-old man.
Kyriakos Oxynos who had recently graduated from university lost his life early on Tuesday after his car first hit the island on Nicosia’ Grivas Digheni Avenue and then a nearby tree.
The Cyprus Swimming Federation as well as Nicosia’s Olympiakos football club both expressed deep sorrow over his death since Oxynos was a skilled swimmer and an academy footballer.
Ironically, hours earlier the Transport Ministry had hailed an 18 per cent reduction in road fatalities during 2022.
Last year’s reduction marked the lowest number of deaths on record which was a total of 37 fatalities.
