The government has condemned the vandalism at a mosque in the Episkopi area of Limassol.

Government Spokesman Kyriakos Koushos, in a statement issued on Thursday said the government strongly and unreservedly condemns graffiti with nationalist slogans, Greek flags and crosses on the mosque`s outer all.

Koushos said the government “strongly and unreservedly condemn the actions of some brainless people who under the pretext of so called patriotism, insult religious sites and the meaning and ideals of patriotism” as taught by the island’s heroes, who honored and protected them.

Malicious actions such as these, do not contribute whatsoever in creating the right climate to find a solution to the Cyprus problem that will reunite our country, the Spokesman added.

He further said the government will not tolerate such criminal actions which tarnish the country and the patriotic spirit which has distinguished Cypriot Hellenism.

The incident was reported to Police and footage from the closed circuit television will be examined.
