Cyprus confronted with five serious environmental challenges

Relevant News

Cyprus’ environmental challenges are at a critical point due to the  worsening economic recession of recent past years along with the promotion of uncontrolled growth for economic recovery, Philenews reports.

At the same time, the Mediterranean island continues to face significant challenges in the timely harmonization and proper implementation of EU Environmental Law.

This is what the Federation of Environmental Organizations of Cyprus pointed put in a statement on Saturday when the World Environment Day was marked.

The Federation also proposed ways and police measure that can be taken to meet the island’s five most urgent and important environmental challenges.

These are: (a) protection and management of water resources (b) ensuring health and quality of life (c) protection and management of nature and biodiversity (d) waste management and (e) strengthening environmental governance.

At the same time, July 3 is the last day of use of disposable plastics in supermarkets and shops all around the EU.

Cypriot environmental officials are anxiously waiting for stocks to end so that the disturbing phenomenon of pollution from microplastics in sea waters comes to an end.
