Cypriots say no to Covid-19 vaccine booster doses

Relevant News

Despite medical recommendations the vast majority of Cypriots seem very reluctant to get the fourth or fifth dose of Covid-19 boosters, according to Philenews.

Even among elderly people who are the most vulnerable of society facing the greatest risk of severe coronavirus symptoms the vaccination rate for the fourth and fifth dose is far below expectations.

This reluctancy seems to be a phenomenon all across Europe, latest data by the the European Center for Disease Control (ECDC) shows.

In Cyprus, 66% of the general population have so far received the third dose of the vaccine. And this high percentage is probably recorded because the  government’s SafePass had this as a pre-condition, thus, making it indirectly mandatory.

As for the percentage so far of those getting a second booster (4th) dose or a third booster (5th) dose both in the general population and in people over 60 this is shockingly low.

Specifically, only 5.9% of the general population got the boosters and just 19.9% of people aged 60 and above.

The corresponding percentage in the EU, for booster vaccines, it stood at 19.3% on Tuesday while in neighboring Greece it was 19.1%.
