Alex Thalassinos a medical student at Semmelweis University in Hungary started running half-marathons after a dare by his friends a few years ago.
Since then, he has decided to take part in half-marathons every year to raise money for philanthropic causes.
This Sunday, April 14, Alex will participate in Telekom Vivicittá half-marathon (21 km) in Budapest to raise funds for Zoe, a 16 year old girl in Cyprus, who is suffering from brain cancer.
Alex says that Zoe was diagnosed in October 2018. “Since then, she has undergone 3 neurosurgical procedures, and spent many days in the ICU, and almost 3 months in a recovery centre.”
Thankfully, her recovery is going well and her doctors optimistic about her progress. In fact, they say that she is recovering much faster than what they expected.
Zoe is now back at home with her parents, however the disease and the multiple surgeries she underwent caused problems to her movement and speech, as she is now suffering from aphasia.
Alex will run the half-marathon on Sunday to raise funds to help Zoe’s family cover her medical bills, as well as to help them get back on their feet financially.
