Covid vaccination portal opens for appointments for people aged 41

Relevant News

The online portal for Covid-19 vaccination appointments in Cyprus opened on Wednesday morning and will close at 8pm for people aged 41, according to the Health Ministry.

At the same time, the Ministry also said that an increasing number of Pfizer vaccines will be received to boost the island’s vaccination programme.

And that smaller quantities of AstraZeneca vaccines are expected along with very few batches of Johnson & Johnson and Moderna jabs.

This development follows the European Commission’s decision this week to order an extra 100 million doses of the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine, bringing the total ordered to 600 million.

Commission Vice-president Margaritis Schoinas said that, in essence, changes have been made in the policy drafting of the EU vaccination programme.

He also said that “the second phase of the vaccination programme, as from Autumn, will include vaccines of mRNA technology that will be produced within the European Union. So, de facto, we are only negotiating with the Pfizer/BioNTech group.”
