Imposed measures to prevent the coronavirus spread in Cyprus could be loosened for just Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve and not for any other time in between.
This is what Dr Petros Karayiannis, one of the health experts advising the government, told CNA on Monday.
He also said that with over 400 new covid-19 cases daily over the past couple of weeks this is as good as it can get.
On the new strain of the virus, recently found in the United Kingdom, he said additional measures taken in Cyprus and other European countries are probably going to be ineffective.
Because it is already too late, he added, explaining that virus transformations do not happen from one day to another and that the new strain has been probably going around for weeks in the UK.
It has already been traced in Italy, Holland and even Australia and because Cyprus has frequent flights with the UK the new virus could have already arrived here on the island, h added.
