Covid rapid tests to be carried out also by pharmacists

Relevant News

Pharmacists throughout Cyprus will soon be given the green light to carry out covid rapid testing on their premises, Philenews reported on Tuesday.

On the one hand, they will be entitled to issue negative tests recognised by health authorities.

And on the other hand, they will be submitting positive cases to the file system of the Health Ministry’s Epidemiological Unit Monitoring Pandemics.

This will assist government efforts to eliminate the island’s rising phenomenon of undeclared positive covid cases.

A relevant circular has already reached all private pharmacies with immediate effect.

It clearly notes that rapid diagnostic tests will be carried out exclusively by health professionals and won’t be provided to individuals for self-examination.

Another condition is that tests used are only those approved by the Health Ministry and in circulation following the approval of the Pharmaceutical Services.

Moreover, pharmacists must take all necessary protection measures and have the essential protective equipment before a test is carried out.
