Countdown for the vaccines

Developments regarding the vaccines against COVID-19 are moving at a very fast pace both internationally and at a European level. The European Commission has accelerated procedures and dates during which the two vaccines, Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, will be examined by the European Medicines Agency have been moved a week earlier.

As known the Phizer vaccine will be examined on the 21 instead of the 29 December and the Moderna one on the 6 instead of the 12 January.

European Commission President Ursula van der Leyen announced that vaccinations in the EU will begin on 27, 28 and 29 December, while Health Minister Konstantinos Ioannou informed Cypriots that vaccinations will begin on 27 December.

However, it is still unknown whether the manufacturing company, Pfizer, will be in a position to cover in time all the quantities agreed during the agreement with the EU.
