The medical school of the University of Cyprus has suspended operation for 48 hours while eight students undergo tests for coronavirus after coming into contact with a doctor who was confirmed to have the virus.
Students of the medical school do their practical training at Nicosia General Hospital, the largest medical facility on the island.
A doctor, who heads the heart surgery ward there, tested positive for coronavirus yesterday. He had returned from the UK on March 3 and been seing patients until Sunday.
All appointments, admissions and surgeries at the hospital have been suspended for 48 hours.
The medical school said that eight of its students had come into contact with the doctor and have been tested for coronavirus. They have been asked to stay home while the school has suspended operations for 48 hours pending the results.
