Coronavirus: Sixth case confirmed in north Cyprus

Another patient has tested positive for coronavirus in northern Cyprus, the Turkish Cypriot media report.

They quote officials saying that another test has come back positive bringing the total to six.  

The patient is a Turkish Cypriot from the UK, they added.

So far, there are six confirmed cases in Turkish-held northern Cyprus — four German tourists and two Turkish Cypriots, both of whom had come from the UK.

They are all reported to be in good condition.

Turkish Cypriots have announced strict measures to contain the spread of coronavirus. They have banned entry to to everyone except citizens and ‘legal residents’ effective from yesterday until April 1.

They have also shuttered the public service with the exception of basic services (police, hospitals etc)  and ordered the closure of shops, companies, with the exception of pharmacies, bakeries and supermarkets until March 27.

A total of 26 cases have been reported in the government controlled areas of the Republic of Cyprus.

This means that islandwide, there are 32 cases.
