Seven patients who tested positive for coronavirus are in intensive care and two have increased needs for oxygen, professor Leontios Kostrikkis,  member of the Health Ministry’s advisory committee on Covid-19 said today.

He said that three are in the ICU of Limassol General Hospital two in the ICU of Nicosia General Hospital and two in the ICU of Famagusta General Hospital in Paralimni, which is the referral hospital for coronavirus and where a total of 15 patients have been hospitalised.

He was replying to questions during the announcement late on Monday afternoon that another 21 individuals had tested positive, bringing the total to 116.

At the moment, no patients are close to being discharged, he said replying to a question.

Asked whether those who tested positive and are in self-isolation undergo a second test, he said that the policy is for two different tests to be held with a day intervening between the two, before self-isolation ends.

Those in quarantine will be tested only if they exhibit symptoms.

As regards orphan cases he said it was important to fully investigate and trace their contacts.

Asked how many cases Cyprus’ health system can cope with he said that the aim of the measures in force are to ease pressure on the health services to deal with all the difficult cases.
