Coronavirus: Police investigating whether yesterday’s church services in Limassol broke decree

Relevant News

Police are reported to be investigating whether the church services held on Tuesday afternoon in Limassol violated decrees introduced to contain the spread of Covid-19, according to philenews.

Yesterday, eve of the feast of the Annunciation, some churches moved the service normally scheduled for 6 pm to 4 pm, bypassing the decree which enforced a lockdown at 6 pm.

But other rules, including a 75 person limit indoors, had been adopted days before and were still in force.

Philenews said the investigation will cover the Bishop of Limassol who issued an announcement that the service would be held earlier, the priest in charge and the church committee.

Police headquarters are understood to be investigating whether Limassol district police properly checked the number of people in church, it added.
