Coronavirus: Paphos Municipality team to monitor compliance with measures

Paphos Municipality has set up a 10 member team to monitor compliance with the measures introduced by the government  to contain the spread of coronavirus.

It said that the team would assist the work of police. It would be made up of 10 employees and is headed by the head of the municipality’s health inspectors Christos Christou and sergeant Savvas Petrou of traffic warden’s unit.

Their task is to locate unjustified and unnecessary gatherings of people indoors or outdoors in the town such as at cafes, restaurants, squares parks etc and to caution those breaking the law. They will also notify police.

The public are urged to support this effort by telephoning or sending an SMS to  99717210 and 99717157 from 6.00 am until 10.00 pm so that the team is made aware of any illegal and dangerous public gatherings, it said.

“The protection of the health of citizens is the responsibility of all of us and cannot be endangered by the irresponsible and reckless behaviour of anyone,” the municipality added.

Paphos has recorded a number of coronavirus cases, primarily of health professionals at the Paphos General Hospital as well as two private hospitals.
