Coronavirus: Paphos Hospital closes after confirmed case; OKIPI stops patient visits at all hospitals

Paphos Hospital will close for 48 hours after a patient there tested positive for coronavirus, the state health services organisation OKIPI announced on Saturday evening.

In a second announcement, it said allĀ  visits to patients in any of the island’s public hospitals are prohibited until further notice.

As regards Paphos Hospital, it said that on the advice of the epidemiological monitoring unit of the Health Ministry it has taken the following decisions:

  1. Paphos Hospital to close immediately for 48 hours so that it can be disinfected
  2. All the personnel and all the patients who were in the units of the hospital and may have come into contact with the patient or his visitor will be tested for coronavirus
  3. Tracing of all the staff and patients has already started
  4. Patients who are in hospital are being quarantined
  5. No visits will be allowed to any patient for 48 hours
  6. All the scheduled appointments, admissions and surgeries are cancelled over the next 48 hours after which the situation will be reassessed
  7. Any patientĀ  (who has not been admitted to hospital) requiring immediate treatment will be referred to the private sector. The Health Ministry has already made all the necessary arrangements.

Patients in all the districts are asked to go the A&E only for emergencies. People who have travelled to affected areas in the past 14 days and present mild symptoms are urged not to go to the A&E of the hospitals but to remain at home and contact the call centre on 1420 for instructions.

As regards all public hospitals and health facilities,Ā  OKIPI said that in view of the increase in confirmed cases, it has after consultation with the epidemiological monitoring unit decided to prohibit all patient visits until further notice.

It said this aimed at protecting the patients as well as the medical professionals and others working at the hospitals.
