Coronavirus: New travel advice from foreign ministry

Relevant News

The Foreign Ministry has issued a new travel advisory advising Cypriots who wish to travel abroad to avoid areas and countries where there has been a large number of coronovirus cases and more generally to restrict their trips only to those necessary.

Among the countries/areas with a large number of cases are China (especially Hubei province), Hong Kong, South Korea, Iran, Japan, Italy (north Italy — areas of Veneto-Venice, Lombardy-Milan, Emilia-Romagna-Bologna, Piedmont-Turin) and Singapore, it said.

The Health Ministry has decided that travellers arriving in the Republic from there or who have travelled in those countries in the past 14 days will be screened on arrival in Cyprus by health officials and if they have any symptoms, the necessary medical protocols will apply.

Those who do not show any symptoms, the Health Ministry recommends they avoid frequenting areas with large concentrations of people, to self-monitor and to contact a doctor if they show any symptoms of a respiratory infection (temperature, cough, difficulty breathing) within 14 days of their return, to remain at home and to call the  special toll free 24 hour help line on 1420.

Citizens of the Republic who are temporarily or live permanently in the above countries/areas or intend to go there are urged to be particularly careful, to follow local and international media on developments regarding the COVID-19 and comply with instructions of authorities in each country. They should also take personal measures of protection as recommended by the authorities of each country and international health bodies.
