Coronavirus: More than 4000 Covid-19 tests at CING so far

Relevant News

The Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING) has carried out more than 4000 Covid-19 tests so far, its executive director Leonidas Phylactou told the Cyprus News Agency on Thursday.

He said that there was a constant flow of between 300 to 500 samples a day.

CING is coping with the workload, as it has both the trained human resources and the equipment to carry out the tests.

Asked to comment on reports that there were delays in some of the results, Phylaktou said that the results are sent immediately, with no delay to the epidemiological monitoring unit of the Health Ministry. CING has no authority to announce results, he added.

Phylaktou said there were adequate test kits in Cyprus for the time being, noting that there was a shortage worldwide.

Asked to comment on the participation of private labs to this effort, he said that these will be for members of the public who wish to carry out the test for their own reasons.
