Coronavirus: Ministry clarifies travel advice following new entry rules

The Health Ministry has issued revised travel advice following a televised address by President Nicos Anastasiades introducing restrictions on who can enter the Republic of Cyprus, effective from March 15.

Under the new rules, effective from 1 am on March 15 and in force for 15 days, entry is permitted only to:

  • Cypriot citizens
  • Legal residents in the Republic of Cyprus
  • EU nationals or nationals of third countries who work in the Republic
  • Nationals of countries who are in a designated diplomatic service or mission under bilateral or international conventions.
  • Isolated cases of EU or third country nationals who have unavoidable professional obligations, provided they secure the relevant permission from the competent ministry
  • EU or third country nationals studying at educational institutions in the Republic of Cyprus

Citizens who belong to any of the above categories and are travelling to Cyprus from Hubei province in China, Italy, Iran and South Korea must remain in quarantine under medical observation for 14 days.

In all other cases, they must remain in self-isolation and must self-monitor for 14 days and contact the authorities if their exhibit any symptoms.

Citizens of the above categories who wish to leave Cyprus before the 14 days are over can do so provided they have no symptoms.

Citizens who arrived in Cyprus before the decree enters into force (March 15, 2020) and the 14 days have not passed since their arrival are advised to remain in self-isolation and to self-monitor until the 14 days are over.
