Larnaca Municipality has set up a team to ensure that open spaces within its boundaries are closed in line with the latest decree that comes into force at 6 pm today as Cyprus steps up efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus.
In an announcement, the municipality said that the team will ensure that the municipal gardens, parks, children’s play areas, public spaces where people congregate, the Tekke excursion site, the Larnaca salt lake area, the piers and beaches are closed.
Moreover, a meeting was held with Larnaca police regarding the removal of wood and other materials that was being used to build Easter bonfires, which have also been banned. These will be removed by municipal crews under police escort. The public should contact the municipality on telephone 24812542 or 24816530 if they see piles of wood in open areas.
