Coronavirus: High school pupils returning from Milan, to be home-quarantined

Relevant News

A group of high school pupils in Milan for an Erasmus programme are cutting their trip short because of the coronavirus outbreak and returning to Cyprus where they will be asked to home quarantine.

Seven people have died in northern Italy of the disease and around 150 cases have been reported since Friday, making Italy the most affected country outside Asia.

In a message on Twitter, Cyprus’ embassy in Italy advised all Cypriots living in Italy or planning to visit to follow the instructions of local authorities there and of Italy’s Health Ministry.

The pupils were in Milan for an Erasmus programme, but activities have now been cancelled by the Italian authorities as part of measures to deal with the coronavirus outbreak, the Education Ministry said adding that it has taken the initiative to bring them home as soon as possible.

The decision was relayed to the Health Ministry which announced that it will be activating the coronavirus protocols.

The pupils and the adults accompanying them will undergo a health test on arrival at Larnaca Airport.

If they show no symptoms, they will be given instructions to monitor themselves and be told to remain at home for 14 days.

In the event that a passenger does have symptoms then the protocols will be activated to investigate a possible suspect case and all the necessary action taken, it added.
