Coronavirus: Four more patients test positive, total rises to 14

Another four people in Cyprus have tested positive for coronavirus, the Health Ministry has announced, bringing the total to 14.

It said that it had been informed by the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics that four new cases have been confirmed.

These are:

  • Two people who are in home isolation and had recently returned from Athens and had contacted authorities after exhibiting symptoms
  • Two people who are in home isolation and who had close contact with confirmed cases

The epidemiological monitoring unit of the Health Ministry has started tracing the contacts of the four new patients so as to carry out tests.

The Health Ministry late on Thursday night amended travel advice, moving the UK to category 2 requiring mandatory self-isolation for all passengers who come from there at home for 14 days. The new rules are effective from Saturday, March 14.

Earlier on Friday, the Turkish Cypriot media said that the number of confirmed cases in the north had risen to five after another three tested positive.
