The first 100 of 152 samples rushed to the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics overnight after a doctor working at Nicosia General Hospital tested positive for coronavirus have tested negative, philenews reports citing informed sources.

It said the 152 samples are from health professionals who had come into contact with the doctor as well as his family members. The doctor is head of the hospital’s heart surgery unit.

The doctor had returned to Cyprus from the UK on March 3 and saw a number of patients until Sunday. He and a 25 year old man from Limassol who is in self-isolation after visiting Milan are the first two coronavirus cases in Cyprus.

The Health Ministry has been tracing all the people who came into contact with the doctor.

It has also revised its instructions for travellers. Nicosia General Hospital has suspended services for 48 hours pending the results of the tests.

Meanwhile, the Council of Ministers met under President Nicos Anastasiades and decided on a number of measures to contain the spread of coronavirus.

These are: extending the temporary closure of four checkpoints on the Green Line until March 18, closure of a number of private and public schools in Nicosia for three days, the cancellation of concerts, parades and events and a ban on indoor gatherings with more than 75 people, including church congregations.

Football matches will be held without fans until March 31.
