Relevant News

Seeking to shore up an embattled health system, Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou on Thursday issued a decree placing all registered doctors and nurses under his orders to tackle the spread of coronavirus effective from 6 am on Friday.

The decree notes that the protection of public health and the medical system are responsibilities of the Republic and is issued with the aim of containing the spread of COVID-19, protecting public health and averting a possible collapse of the health system by the possible spread of the virus, and taking into consideration the needs in human resources and infrastructure that will be required in the event of a rapid spread of the virus.

The decree covers all registered doctors and nurses who will be placed under the orders of the Health Minister and will perform the duties assigned to them.

The names of the doctors and nurses who will be under instructions will be published on the website of the Health Ministry  www.moh.gov.cy  and/or they will notified in a way that will be decided by the minister.

They will present themselves for duty at the time and place to be stated in the table or in their briefing and will be given at least 24 hours notice.

If they belong to the vulnerable groups they may be assigned other duties.
