Coronavirus: Condition of three hospitalised patients ‘good’

Relevant News

Three patients who have tested positive for coronavirus and were taken to Famagusta  General Hospital last night are in good spirits and have exhibited no complications, a senior public health official told the Cyprus News Agency on Thursday.

The three patients are Greek Cypriots. Two had arrived from the UK on Tuesday and were found to be running a high temperature on arrival at Larnaca Airport and quarantined pending tests. The third is a Paphos taxi driver who has not travelled  or come into contact with a confirmed case.

Yiorgos Karotsakis, executive director of the state health services for Larnaca-Famagusta said that the three men had had an uneventful night. “The evening went smoothly, they are in good spirits and watched TV.  Nor have there been any complications or any problems,” he said. Families should not be concerned as they are being well cared for, he added.

The patients are in quarantine at the hospital which is slowly being cleared. Operations are being cancelled and patients are being referred to Larnaca Hospital or even private clinics. The gynecological and children’s wards have been designed as the wards where coronavirus patients are to be treated, while the intensive care unit is also being cleared for this purpose.

“The hospital is not being cleared because there is any danger for the patients or residents in the area but because we are unfortunately seeing an increase in coronavirus cases and we need to be ready to deal with the situation. We know the condition of the patients who have the virus and all the necessary precautions are being taken,” he said.
